Roulston Scar, Sutton Bank by fishers

Roulston Scar, Sutton Bank

Our Moorsbus carried us down Bilsdale, through Helmsley to Sutton Bank, the site of another visitor centre. Only 20 mins here before our next bus, so just time to look at the views over the Vale of York, which have been described as the finest in Yorkshire. Visibility was very good, so we could see the views at their best.

This shot looks south-south-west to Roulston Scar and over the Vale of York. Cloud was now beginning to build, and I liked the effect of the silhouette of Roulston Scar with the building clouds above.

On the flat land above Roulston Scar is the Yorkshire Gliding Club. It's an impressive sight to see a glider being towed off this edge and rise gracefully into the sky. On this visit there was just a solitary glider in the sky.

Two more Moorsbuses to ge us home, and it looked like a bit of a challenge to get home before the rain started. Fortunately, we got home before the rain, but only just!

Nice effective shot. Although it does look like Yorkshire is on a bit of a tilt...

Ah lovely! Last time I drove over Sutton Bank, there was, of course, a caravan attempting the climb. One wonders if anyone reads those enormous signs saying "unsuitable!" Police pulled it aside to turn it around. Such a fabulous viewpoint from the top, makes me want to take a deep breath of fresh air looking at your photo.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated!

I hope you've all enjoyed this brief tour, over the last few days, of the North York Moors. Katharine and I wanted to see again as many places as possible that we had visited during the 2019 Moorsbus season, so not much walking and lots of riding on this last day. We already have ideas for outings on Moorsbus 2020, so we just hope that the Moorsbus team can raise enough money to run the service again.
