First of all a big thank you to all of you who sent good wishes to my wife Katharine, who has spent the last two weeks in hospitals, first in Sheffield and more recently in York. She came home yesterday afternoon and is now making a good recovery from the pneumonia and damaged spleen that she has suffered from.
I've taken very few photos over the last two weeks, so here is another from my trip to Selby three weeks ago. Here is the exterior of Selby Abbey. This year is a special one for the Abbey since it is celebrating 950 years since it was founded. There have been a series of special events to celebrate this, but my shot was taken on just an ordinary day in the long life of this impressive building.
Continued good wishes to Katharine and what a lovely shot and piece of history. I love having things that are as old as that in this country! Not every country has this.
This is a beautiful abbey. I may look up the history, and how it came by the name Selby. My husband's family from the UK once had the name Selby which was later changed to Shelby.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, and a particular thank you to those of you who sent good wishes to Katharine. Sadly, she was not at home very long, since last night she had severe pain in her shoulder and abdomen, so I called an ambulance and she is back in York hospital. I saw her this afternoon and she is quite cheerful, but there have been more tests today, with more to follow tomorrow.
@fishers oh so sorry to read this. Hope they get to the bottom of it speedily and can help her back on the road to recovery promptly. Sending lots of love and get well wishes to her.
