Thank you all once again for your words of care and encouragement for Katharine. She remains in hospital, and now has pleurisy. To add to life's complexity, my mum is also now in hospital in Rotherham with a chest problem.
Icons are not a particularly common feature of Anglican churches in the UK, but in Selby Abbey there are three. This one was my favourite.
The following is an extract from the notes about this icon - "The icon shows Christ and an early Egyptian saint called Menas who represents every believer. It says something about the friendship that Christ offers to everyone who will accept it. Christ has his arm on his friend's shoulder, as a sign of his friendship....."
Oh goodness me, you must be torn in both directions at once! Heartily wishing both Katharine and your mum well again from those chest bugs. So much around this time of year. All the very very best.
Beautiful icons. I studied Iconography as one of my college courses. This is beautiful and I love the words from the notes.
Wonderful image...Ian, I know that you must be very stressed with Katherine's and your mom's illnesses. Prayers to you, Katherine, your mom and family.
Thank you all for all your comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
On the medical front, Katharine is still in York hospital, but my mum has been discharged from Rotherham hospital, and my brother had quite a journey to get her home through an area badly affected by flooding. Thank you once again for all your kind words and prayers, they are very much valued!
wonderful capture
glad to her that mom is now home safe and sound after battling in the hospital and flooding roads - must have been very scary experience.
You and Katherine are still in my prayers every night

( I`m with you. I think they all play panic football. )
Do hope both Katherine and your Mum are soon feeling much stronger and able to get home.
I am sorry you have so much to deal with at once. Hoping both continue to improve soon...
I am really drawn to icons. They are a fascinating insight into Christian history.
