Wakefield cathedral is a building that has been transformed in recent years. Dark stonework has been cleaned, new lighting and heating has been installed, pews in the nave have been replaced by chairs, but some elements of tradition remain and have been enhanced - for example the stained glass has been cleaned and restored and now looks even more beautiful.
This shot shows what to me is one of the most attractive and impressive features of this cathedral - it's altar and reredos.
I'm not sure I've explained all these recent trips to nearby towns and cities. Well, Northern Rail, the franchisee who operates local train services across northern England, had a flash sale at the beginning of February, with single tickets on selected trains at 10p each. Well, who could resist? I booked 10 return journeys which I am in the process of enjoying. Great fun for a total cost of only £2! It seems that they sold 250,000 tickets in less than three days. Sadly, the Northern Rail franchise is being taken back into government control from the end of this month, so it may be the last flash sale that is as cheap as this one.
Katharine missed out on these trips. Although she is well on her way to recovery, she isn't yet ready for this kind of excursion.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are all very much appreciated!
Wakefield cathedral has been beautifully updated in recent years, but with many traditional features retained and nicely maintained.
And no Jesika, I didn't see the peregrines in Wakefield this time, but they have featured on 365 previously - http://365project.org/fishers/365/2016-06-28
