For The Fallen

My last Remembrance shot in this series, and today on the actual Remembrance Day, I'm including this mobile memorial.

Vinyl wraps have become a feature on railway vehicles in this country (and presumably elsewhere), and this is one of the most impressive so far. Revealed in November 1914, the design is filled with images, stories and tributes to regiments and people who served in the First World War from across the East Coast route. The nameplate includes regimental badges of five regiments that were based along the route.

These locomotives have hauled passenger trains between London, Yorkshire and Edinburgh since around 1990, and are now close to the end of their working lives on this route, with their final replacement due in 2023. Some will find uses elsewhere, but this locomotive will go to the National Railway Museum in York, still carrying it's unique decorations.

This locomotive has featured before in our project, shortly after it received this decoration - http://365project.org/fishers/365/2014-12-11

Whenever this locomotive is in use, it still catches the attention of passengers and is a very popular tribute to those who fell in World War One.

Fabulous moving ( and I mean going the country) tribute to all those who lost their life in that war. I sincerely hope the memory of what happened then is not lost lest some madman decides to start one again.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.

Remembrance has been particularly important to me this year. I watched a DVD of vintage film from the First World War which has been processed to remove the jerky movements of old film and which has also been colourised (to a very high standard). The horrors and sacrifices were brought to life in a new and vivid way. We owe all those who have fought for our freedom a huge debt of gratitude.
