The last weekend in January has in recent years become a time of frenzied activity in York. The annual Residents Festival was started as a way of thanking residents for their contribution to the tourism industry in the city and it has become a very successful event.
Many attractions give residents free or reduced price admission, cafes and restaurants have promotional offers, and lots of residents have a great day out.
Sadly no Residents Festival this year, but I've been looking back at earlier years. It is always interesting to find places to visit that haven't been visited before, and this shot is from St Lawrence Church in Walmgate taken two years ago. I've passed this church many times but never been in before. There were displays about the church, and guided tours. The church has obviously been neglected for a long time, but more recently a lot of work has been done to restore the church.
Sometimes it is the little details which catch the eye, and this shot shows a small portion of one of the stained glass windows, and is a image of the church choir at the time the glass was created. It is thought the faces are of the actual choir members at the time.
Did you visit the Theatre during its last major works? It was interesting seeing part of St Leonard’s in the basement. How huge and magnitude the building must have been and what an important if not essential service it provided.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It is always fascinating to look at stained glass, there are often unusual or quirky details to find.

I missed the archaeology at the Theatre Royal Jessica - sadly sometimes life is just too busy to fit everything in.
