Along the path beside the River Foss in York were around 20 fairy houses in the trees. They were in place for an Easter treasure hunt due to take place today. There was a fascinating collection of designs, and the display even included a bar for anyone who can't wait for the pubs to reopen as Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed! (bottom right).
A lot of the fairy houses were quite well hidden, so it took a bit of time to find them. I do know that there were some that I missed.
Sadly, later in the afternoon when I did my walk, some of the houses were damaged by vandals. However, that stimulated a very positive community response and the damaged houses were repaired or replaced ready for today.
Great collage, I like that every fairy house different roofing material has been used.
Who would want to vandalize a fairy house?
It’s nice to hear that the vandalism brought on community sprit to fix them.
The houses are very adorable.
They are so sweet, shame some were damaged. Our local arts centre has a fairy garden and vandals damaged that a few years ago too. Luckily it has been rebuilt and because they had cctv at the centre the culprits were found and punished.
So nice to go looking to find all the fairy houses. why do some kids or even adults have to be so mean and spoil it. hope they were found and punished.
I wrote you a note on your yesterday's picture
regarding the poem I wrote for my granddaughter. you might like to read it.
So cute! I thought they were bird hides for nesting. So many vandals going about, their mission being to wreck what others try to do to make life beautiful.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I haven't seen any reports on how the Easter hunt for the fairy houses has gone so far, but apparently there were a lot of pre-bookings to take part. I think it will probably have been a great success. I also think that the response to the damaged houses has been very good for community spirit.
