St Anthony's Garden is clearly visible from York city walls as you walk the section along Jewbury. There is no access to the garden from the walls, and the entrance on Peasholme Green is rather anonymous, and the garden is behind a high wall, but once you find your way in it is a lovely quiet space. This visit was one of the busiest times I've visited, and there were only around 12 people there. It isn't unusual to visit and be the only person there.
The garden is situated between the city walls, St Anthony's Hall and St Cuthbert's Church. It was designed by students at Bishop Burton College who were asked to make it user friendly for the disabled, the partially sighted and the blind.
In this shot the view is across the garden towards the tower of St Cuthberts Church. The bulk of the church dates from the 15th century although it does include some stonework from the 11th centruy.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
This is a peaceful place in a busy part of town, with lots of people and traffic passing. I met two ladies there who live near us and who regularly visit these gardens for their peace and tranquility.
