A different viewpoint and a wider view into the Vale of York from the escarpment near Sutton Bank. There are a series of interesting views along here.
The escarpment is about 1000 feet (300 metres) above sea level, while the lake surface is around 500 feet (150 metres) above sea level. The agricultural land beyond is less than 300 feet (90 metres) above sea level.
On a clear day there are spectacular distant views. York Minster can be seen (about 20 miles away). Three power stations situated along the River Aire can also be seen (around 35 miles away), though the cooling towers of two of them are due to be demolished soon and that will be landmarks lost.
To the west some of the peaks in the Yorkshire Dales some 30 miles away can be seen. The visibility wasn't ideal on this walk, but the power stations could just be seen.
Great shot of this beautiful country view. Fav.
Those horrible flooding is n`t here. It happen in the south east part of our country - Limburg. Gladly not that much as in the neighbour countries Germany and Belgium. We`ve only damages, no people hurt. Germany over 100 people died, Begium 20. So sad and sorry.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
There will be more photos from Moorsbus trips over the coming weeks. It really has been wonderful to explore parts of the North York Moors that would be inaccessible without the Moorsbus. I have made such explorations since Moorsbus first ran from York in 1995, except for last year when it never ran due to Covid-19 restrictions.
