OK, I admit it, I can't resist posting another steam locomotive shot! Last weekend was the Autumn Steam Gala on the North York Moors Railway. We had walks planned from the Moorsbus for Saturday and Sunday which left only Friday, so it was a trip on the Coastliner bus to Pickering, and several hours at the station taking photos of the various locomotives at work.
The Gala involves several visiting ocomotives, and this shot shows a locomotive called 'Lady of Legend', visiting from Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire. This class of locomotive operated from 1902 to 1953 on the Great Western Railway, but they all went to the scrapyard after their service was finished. In order to create this example, major parts of a later locomotive type that were simular in design were used, along with a number of new components. The conversion was completed in 2019, over 100 years after the last new member of the class was built.
The locomotive has just entered platform 1 at Pickering railway station, greeted by large numbers of photographers and enthusiasts.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I enjoyed my day Watching steam locomotives at work and taking their photos. It is likely that my next chance for steam locomotive photos will be in the lead-up to Christmas when several special trains are planned to bring visitors to York for the Christmas market.
