Painted stones became quite popular during the various lockdowns here in York, so when we heard that in addition to the crochet and knitted poppies, Escrick Church had some painted stones as part of their Remembrance, it seemed a good idea to go and have a look.
Escrick is a few miles south of York. It is only a small village, much of it originally built to house staff for Escrick Hall. It enjoys a frequent bus service, being on the main route between York and Selby, and the bus dropped us off outside the church - couldn't be more convenient!
We arrived just in time for a cup of tea from one of the ladies from the church who was there.
The display of poppies was quite good, with a lot of work being needed to produce them all, and there were some lovely ideas in the way they were displayed. My eye was caught though by this painted stone, with its very evocative image. Whoever produced it was a gifted artist.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I do like that Remembrance has in recent years become more prominent, following the centenary of the First World War. So many wars, so much pain and suffering and death. The least we can do is remember the sacrifices of so many.
