This shot shows part of the ruins of St Mary's Abbey in the Museum Gardens, York, and I thought that this shot gives an impression of the scale of those ruins, and a hint of just how large the abbey would have been before it was largely demolished following the dissolution of the monasteries under King Henry VIII in the 1530s and 1540s.
Oh, and it also shows that we sometimes have beautiful blue skies!
Pity a glorious building like this had to suffer for any reason. The architecture must been amazing. I have seen a few abbeys similar to this and in similar conditions when I used to visit. I can vouch for their majestic built. Fabulous capture and pov.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
The scale of destruction during the dissolution of the monasteries was enormous, both here in York and throughout the country, though it has to be said the ruins that still exist make very interesting places to visit.
