Saturday and Sunday this weekend is the York Residents Festival, where those who can prove they live in York can get free or reduced price admission to a variety of attractions, reduced price food in a number of cafes and restaurants, and special events, particularly in some of the churches. All Saints Church on North Street started a day early, with a coffee morning and a talk about salvation in Medieval times this afternoon. We went to hear the talk, which was really interesting. The church has some beautiful decoration inside, and I found this Madonna and Child particularly attractive.
All Saints Church has some marvellous medieval stained glass. It contains more good medieval glass than almost any other parish church in England. The only nearby location with more medieval glass is York Minster. Much of the glass has recently been restored and the clarity and colour of the restored glass is remarkable.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It seems that the talk that we went to is part of a series following the restoration work in the church - we may be making more visits! It is a lovely church with many attractive details. It's a wonderful source of photographic as well as spiritual inspiration.
I love the layers of history in York, and that there is quite a lot from many periods to be seen. My attention seems to have been quite strongly medieval in recent days, and it was lovely to see the work carried out at this church.
( Amsterdam just closed it`s public light art exhibition. Like York the city Amsredam needed tourist.)
