Day 1 of Flight School by flowerfairyann

Day 1 of Flight School

These 3 young swallows and their parents have provided lots of entertainment. Overnight they had fledged from their precarious nest to this hook jutting out of the wall (a distance of about a metre). They eventually flew down to perch on the barbecue and from there took off on their maiden flight. Direction proved a bit of a problem at one point as the young flew into my house followed by their parents. I just had to laugh with 5 of them flying around my head. The parents guided all but one out and it must have spent 15 minutes looking down on my world from a beam. They were back in the evening to settle on a rafter and tonight (after day 2 of Flight School) they have returned again, all huddling together as they had to in the nest. Just love swallows.
Lovely capture :) Great to see you back too!

What a great memory. I love to see their little bellies and the down, not yet real feathers.

What a wonderful thing to be able to observe Ann. I like your flight school analogy. I guess they are fully trained by now.

@helenhall The aerobatic displays are dizzying to watch - such speed and skill. Sadly though, there are only two young and one adult returning to the rafter for the night.

@roachling Thanks Louise. Hoping to be back properly very soon but have been continuing to enjoy all the amazing photos on 365.
