Playing in the manger by francoise

Playing in the manger

Mr Pig here. I'm definitely feeling like the indulgent dad tonight. Miss F is just starting to set up Christmas decorations, so there are lots of new play possibilities. The squealers were enchanted by the empty manger and wanted to move right in. I said no, that we couldn't camp in a barn tonight, no matter how charming. But they could play there, I told them. So, for hours and hours, we played hide-and-seek, of all things. They thought that if they couldn't see me, I couldn't see them, so they pretty much always hid in plain sight, while I wandered around saying things like "where could my squealers possibly be?" and pretending I didn't see them. Even if there had been any good hiding places in an empty manger, the squealers made so much noise just breathing, not to mention giggling, that I would have known instantly where they were. When I "found" one, exuberant shrieking and squealing always brought the other two out instantly. Then we'd start the game again. And again. And again. And again. I lost track of how many times we played. Sometimes when I counted to ten while they were hiding, I could hear them counting right along with me. Although I suggested taking turns, they always insisted that I look for them while they hid. After what seemed like hours, Crystal finally rescued me by announcing that it was bedtime.
I like it. Good to keep our inner child playing and having fun

That’s a fun story. That is just how kids are at a certain age.

What fun! You are such a good dad for those little squealers. After Miss F finishes setting up the manger, you should take them to visit the Holy Family. Does Miss F put out Baby Jesus at the beginning or wait until Christmas Day? The Dinosaurs and Neanderthal Men at my house hung out at the manger all Advent a few years ago. But that’s definitely too long for little squealers.
