This insect perched on the mirror and sat there for a good long time. I'm not sure what it is. In the air it seemed rather like a super sized shad fly but I've never seen a shad fly in that pretty colour or that large a size..
ETA: My Bug Guide people came through again with ID...it is a Green Lacewing and eats aphids...hooray for that!
Great find and neat shot. I thought it was some kind of Lacewing, when I first saw it. There again you have made finding it's identify a lot easier with such a good top and bottom view all in one.
