Calling on any bird experts out there to ask if they know what bird this is. Looking through ID photos the closest I can find seems to be a Savannah Sparrow but I am by no means sure.
sorry I don't know - I use a fb group for identifying australian birds - maybe you can find one that would work for your needs if no one here can help. The one I'm in is huge and it's never taken longer than 2 minutes to get an ID (often it's been less than 30 seconds!)
Looks similar to the female Rose-Breasted Grosbeak that showed up in my backyard a couple of weeks ago. First time I have seen one. It looks lighter than the ones I saw but that could be the lighting. Allaboutbirds said that they sometimes breed with the Black-Headed Grosbeak and the cross breeds can have either coloring or a mix of the colors. Beak looks about the right size.
It could be a female purple finch (from looking at internet photos) but then maybe that means that the birds I had identified as a male house finch may actually a male purple finch...so hard to tell.
