Just another shot of the same water bird in today's other picture. I think it may be a pied-billed grebe but would like to know for sure. I also wonder if it is likely to hang around or if it is just passing through.
Both shots are extreme crops of much larger images so please pardon the poor quality.
@leananiemand That's what I thought ,at first, but if it is a pied-billed grebe then I think they are quite small even as adults. And this one seemed to be quite an accomplished swimmer and diver, staying underwater for long periods and then popping up again in a different area, so not sure if a chick would have that ability.
