The Angels weep in sympathy
For your loved one who has died
But God says, “Wipe away those tears
Your beloved’s by my side.”
...Fred H. Salter
Today is the Memorial Service for Deputy Mark Stasyuk who was killed in the line of duty. End of watch: Monday, September 17, 2018
True heroes wear a badge. A very sad day and emotional time.
Thank you all for your kind words and understanding. This particular loss has hit me hard and my eyes well in tears at the mere thought of it. This deputy was so young, loved his job, was well liked and admired, a newlywed and had so much to look forward to in his life. He went on a routine call and was pursued by the suspect and deliberately shot and killed execution style. My son who has been a Deputy Sheriff for 12 years has been on hundreds of calls, just like that one. Nothing is a simple and routine anymore, nothing is a given or known. Law Enforcement are hated by criminals and loved when you call for help. They walk a fine line between the two polarities. They are not respected nor are orders followed like they once were. Stop or I'll shoot is ignored. And if they do shoot, are attacked by the media for unnecessary force. They put their life on the line each and every day. In these heightened situations, the police have the right to defend themselves. I am extremely sad but also thankful it wasn't my son...this time. My son is living his purpose, his passion and what he was meant to do. He has known it all his life. I admired him, am proud of him and know in my heart that this is his calling...to serve and protect. I hope he remains safe in doing so. Please support your local law enforcement. It is a thankless job.
Your narrative is so touching. As a mother I can only imagine how hard it is to have a son in law enforcement. I'm so thankful to you son and others like him who are willing to serve and protect in a very perilous time.
I love this image - the composition is perfect. Even more meaningful now that I have read your words.
@365karly1 Thank you so much, Karly. I appreciate your comment and understanding. It was extremely hard on me and my DIL the last two weeks. Last year, my son's patrol training officer was shot and killed in the line of duty. Every time we hear of an officer shooting, we are on high
alert! Thank you again.
This is a beautiful tribute and your words are so true. Although I must say, I think there are more people who support men and women like your son than you probably realize. The whiners, complainers and haters are always the loudest. Those who recognize the sacrifices and service of our law enforcement people don't always speak up, but they're out there.
