Bottle Brush And Hummingbirds by gardenfolk

Bottle Brush And Hummingbirds

Have you ever observed a hummingbird
moving about in an aerial dance among
the flowers, a living prismatic gem...
...it is a creature of such fairy-like
loveliness as to mock all descriptions.
...W.H. Hudson

I hear that the bottle brush plant is very attractive to hummingbirds. Unfortunately, it is also very popular with bees, which I am allergic to so I need to keep my distance from plants that attract a lot of bees. I have only seen the red ones in California but I do love the pink that has been posted on 365. Nice on black.

Great close up. This is the first time I have seen a view of the screwy shape of the bottle brush. Now I understand the name better.

I'm not surprised the hummingbirds have adapted to feeding on the callistemon as all our honey eating birds love them - beautiful capture :)

We don't have humming birds and although I have a lovely bottlebrush in flower, haven't seen the bees yet - there are too many other bee type plants here in the garden...eg fuchsia.
