We rented a golf cart for 3 hours and took the scenic tour around Avalon and the hills. We saw Sugar Rock, Pebbly Beach and Lover's Cove, Abalone Point, Mt. Ada (the entrance of the Wrigley Mansion), the 9 hole golf course and country club, the old Bird Park, passed the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Garden, Catalina Zipline and Eco Tour area, PK Wrigley's Mansion, Catalina Chimes Tower, where I took this photo, and Descanso Bay.
The chimes toll every 15 minutes. I was confused about what time it was, thinking it was on the hour or half hour. They need to be tuned a bit but I still enjoyed them ringing. The golf cart was so much fun, gorgeous views and the weather was perfect. Most people on the island use a golf cart for transportation and gas is around $7.00 a gallon. There is a very long waiting list to bring a vehicle to Catalina but you do not really need one unless you are going in the back country or mountains. I have read it is anywhere between 25-40 years on the waiting list! And for every two cars that leave the island, they allow one car to come over. Not a single traffic light in town...just stop signs. I love the charm and vintage feel. Less is more.
I like this sneak peak at Catalina! I spent many summers there as child, watching the taffy pulling machine in the candy shop window and loved exploring the island in a golf cart!
