Reconstructing Dreams by gardenfolk

Reconstructing Dreams

Art is not
always about
pretty things.
It's about
who we are
what happened
to us and
how our lives
are affected.
...Elizabeth Broun

This piece of art was inside the 21C Museum Hotel in Lexington, Kentucky. The piece is titled Reconstructing Dreams series 2004-2005 and are chromogenic prints on aluminum.

The brides featured in Beth Moyses still are embarking on a transformative journey both physical and emotional. Reconstructing Dreams creates a new ritual: female survivors of domestic abuse walk together through the streets of Montevideo, Uruguay, to the central public square, where they sit and embroider the patterns of the lines in their hands on their gloves, discarding their past and wedding themselves to new lives.

I will post more on 21C tomorrow. It is a very cool museum hotel.

that kind of creative process can be very restorative. Our local refuge created a powerful work of art in which the women hung up the keys from their past homes, closing the door on their old lives.
