I Begin With An Idea

I begin with an idea
and then
it becomes something else.

From the Cincinnati Museum, I took a few closeups of the "Paper Arch" which was commissioned by DC's Renwick Gallery for its 2018-2019 Burning Man Art Exhibit. The artists are Michael Garlington and Natalia Bertotti from Petaluma, California.

The 15 foot tall "Paper Arch" is made of paper, wood, fabric and found objects. It is covered in photos of people, including Susan Sarandon and William Dafoe, flora and fauna, and repeated prints of an eye, (Michael Garlington's mother's eye) that is also tattooed on his forearm. I thought the arch was quite interesting.

The Pinocchio bronze statue was made by Jim Dine and is titled Emotional. I liked the way he was standing in the rain with his arms out and you could see his shadow on the wet street.

The arch itself is astonishing - thank you for the link. Your collage works well to show the theme, and connections between what, at first sight seems to have no common ground. Your individual photos combine well.

Fabulous collage, CC. Really captures the beauty and fascination of the arch. I especially love the Pinocchio sculpture as Jim Dine is from Cincinnati. Great photos!!
