Wow. Nice waterfall shot, but even more that ice! Not cold enough around here for that to happen.

Where is this at? Awesome job man.
posted January 7th, 2012
@100summits Bear Creek, little waterfall a mile or two west of Morrison, Colorado just off the road (Bear Creek Rd -- 74). About 3 or 4 curves after you pass Red Rocks there is a small pull-off on the left of the road, you have to look down at the creek to find it.

This is simply gorgeous!!! Congrats on the top 20! :)

I have to ask a technical question, because I am wanting to try daytime long exposures - did you use an ND filter for this? I have a variable ND filter but I feel that despite putting it on the maximum amount of darkness, the frame would still be washed out with white by the time 245 seconds elapsed! xD
posted January 14th, 2012
Unless you took this at night? :D
posted January 14th, 2012
@pocketmouse @pocketmouse I took this in the middle of the day with a Hoya 77mm Neutral Density ND-400 HMC Filter. I have a 77mm filter size, yours may vary, but this is what I used: http://www.amazon.com/Hoya-Neutral-Density-ND-400-Filter/dp/B00111UX40/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326305809&sr=8-1
It lets in about 1/1000th of the available light. All manual settings. compose and focus, then put on filter (looks black), then shoot test image at ISO 3200 may 15 seconds or so. adjust shutter speed until you get a good histogram. then put ISO to 100 and keep doubling your shutter speed 5 times (because you came down 5 stops from 3200 to 100). Works the first time every time if you do the math : )

sounds kinda complicated, but after you do it a few times, it really is not rocket science.....
