These children were playing and enjoying the wonderful sun today so I took the opportunity to take some people photos! I tried to not be too conspicuous with the camera : ) if you want to see the whole frame (as I intended it to look) you have to view it large.....
Great people shot. It is hard to take photos out in the world we live in. Some people look with admiration and crave to see if you 'got the shot' then others look at you like you are some kind of creep. I'm sure this mother would love to see this beautiful pic!
@kamb I am especially worried about being perceived as a creep (or worse) -- especially when photographing children. Honestly, I probably would have never taken this shot had it not been for my lovely wife being there and meeting the parents. I am not a photographer so I can't pull out a business card and introduce myself as such. I would feel terrible if I was at a park taking photos of kids and a mother ran up and grabbed her child, running in horror from me, thinking that I was some sort of freak -- so I just don't go there. I guess I don't have the guts to approach a parent at a park or anywhere else and ask permission to take a photo of their child. Too bad, because children are such great subjects for photography!
This is a really beautiful capture. I love your words and honesty. It is such a shame that we live in that constant shadow, because as you say children make such great subjects.
Really nice shot! Love the solftness and the motion.
I see what you mean about people and specially children... btw your pic is beautiful, and sure these children and their parents would be happy to see it. Great one! :)
Lovely , lovely shot Gark & a definite fave ! Love the movement & spontaneity here & beautifully composed !! Can understand your feelings completely about photo taking around children these days especially a man & even if you are brave enough to ask they are reluctant even to let me as an older woman take a picture !! Not as fussy about all this PC rubbish in New Zealand I noticed..I was actually encouraged to take my camera into the hot pools to take a photo of my grandson.
this is a fabulous capture gark. The D700 is a great camera. I'm saving for either a canon 5d iii or the D800, may take me a few years ;-) would compliment the X100 really well.
Fantastic photo. Gorgeous light and perfect DOF. Love the little slope there.
I get more suspicious around people with Iphones than somebody who has a serious looking kick-ass camera.
Brilliant capture and 10 points for the shot of strangers (esp kids) - I know what you mean... you don't want to seem like some creepy hiding behind a camera haha I feel the same way!
I love it, maybe just a little less than Silver Efex. It saved my ass on some portrait shots this weekend. Just a touch of glamour glow to take the harshness off...
@jonesp another way to achieve that effect quickly without Nik CEP is to decrease the clarity in Light room (usually with bumping up the contrast a bit as well). I stumbled across that by accident. Try decreasing the clarity sometime : ) I love Silver Efex as well!
Love love love this one! The colors, the glow and the happiness you can feel from your shot. And it's pretty rare to see shots of people in your project, so it's a fav :-)
i also often do that! hide in front of people so they can't see me behind the camera. it can be pretty frustrating and i often don't get the right photo but well, we're here to learn, aren't we? :)
