The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas. The shape of the petals on the flower resembles the bonnet worn by pioneer women to shield them from the sun. They are just starting to bloom and soon yards, fields, and highways will be covered with bluebonnets. They traditionally serve as a popular backdrop for family photographs.
@helenhall Thanks so much for your comment and fav, Helen! They don't last long, usually through the end of April. So you definitely would not have seen them during the summer. :-)
@woodlandsphotog Thanks, Richard! They're not widespread here yet. I just have a sprinkling in my yard right now but my neighbor has several large areas already in bloom so that's where I took these shots. :-)
Love! I think this is one of my favorite things about living here. If you ever get a chance to go to Muleshoe Bend in Spicewood in bluebonnet season, do it! You'll be amazed.
@emrob Thanks so much for the wonderful comment and follow! Looking forward to following your project! I will definitely look into visiting Muleshoe Bend! Thanks for the suggestion! :-)
