Of with their heads!

I just wanted to show you how those tulips end...
They're chopped!!!
It's so tragic to see. But remember, this fall you can buy these bulbs and have beautiful tulips in your own garden next Spring.

Tulips as you know them: http://365project.org/geertje/theme-s-and-com/2012-05-09

Very very cool - a Dutch version of the so popular "trainline" shot, eh?!

Beautiful shot - love the lines with the repeating greens and pinks. So that's what happens to all the tulips! :(

@lluniau Lol! Yes, that's our way of doing it ;-)

A few lucky ones ducked their heads just in time! :) Great shot!

noooo now I'll have nightmares :)

They still look great, even beheaded between the rows.

Wow! So just that quick it is over.

Beautiful

This is a great shot! I knew that's what they did and I know that I am supposed to do the same with my tulips, but I have a hard time leaving the stems and leaves sitting there empty. I've seen gardens where people bend them over and "staple" them to the ground with wires. Maybe they feel it's more aesthetic than bare stems...

great shot love the lines...

Beautiful! I love the contrasting lines of pink and green!

What a great one!

What, awww, the pink between the rows is beautiful though. Poor tulips, see ya next year:)

Great shot - so that's the process! I suppose I always knew they were bulb fields, not flower fields but does looks like a battlefield. Is there such a thing as tulipcide.

Very interesting (and great shot!). So we don't chop the leaves because they give strength to the bulbs, but I don't know who chops off the heads of tulips. I will need to explore this! Wonderful photos Geertje!

I like tulips but , they last such a short time, but to me they always mean spring is here. Nice shot

Dat is nieuw voor mij. Worden die onthoofd t.b.v. betere bolgroei?

@djepie Ja, triest maar waar!

oh, so sad.... all of those heads.

I am gutted to see that; last year I saw just the same sight on Texel, and it was like mass murder! I am not normally keen on tulips, but seeing them "native" in your country is the best place to view and appreciate them.

@daviefrance Do you know they're actually from Turkey? Just a funny fact...
posted May 10th, 2012
But all the world knows them as iconic of the Netherlands; I hope Turkey does not mind!

I never knew!!! Great learning experience here! Thanks.

It seems so harsh to cut their heads off in their prime, but they still look beautiful :)
