Frozen water falling by geertje

Frozen water falling

I made a short walk into town today.
But I saw a lot of wild animals, deer, birds... It was great!
And the little creeks here are almost frozen, but not totally so I tried to do a water-picture. The soft water is still falling and the rest is frozen.

Absolutely beautiful!!!

Very nice. I've tried hard to get flowing water smoothed out like this. It's not easy getting the water smooth and the proper exposure!

Amazing, how do you get the soft effect on the water?
February 8th, 2012
@geertje Can anyone tell me what this effect is called and how to achieve it? The soft misty water as it pools at the bottom of each water fall? I am new and want to learn how to achieve this. Thanks so much

@shirljess Hi Shirley, of course I can explain it to you! It's simple, but difficult at the same time. You have to make your aperture as small as possible (so the F-number as high as possible, I used F-32 for this one). You also have to set your Iso low, like 100. And then you need to use a longer shutter-speed, that makes the water so soft. If possible, set your camera in the A-modus and the exposure time follows. The hard thing is to hold your camera still for the exposure, so lean against something or use a tripod. And then you sill hat this as an effect. Good luck!

@djepie Wel,, about 1,5 meter wide and a mater high, I think. So that's small i suppose...
