Deadheaded zinnia blooms to dry for seeds for next year, since the word of the day was color. Summer is fading fast and the fall colors are starting to appear.
The zinnia asks very little of its garden caretaker and gives so very much. Zinnias can be grown almost anywhere. They are not finicky about soil or water, but they do require full sun. The more you deadhead them, the more flowers they will produce.
@kbird61 I dry them (naturally) and when they are all brown save the seeds in an envelope to plant in late spring. I started with 3 plants - orange, pink and yellow. The yellow are harder to grow for some reason (different type apparently). I labeled the colors to keep them separate, but when you mix the seeds you get some beautiful blends. Now I have more than enough to share!
I hope it is not to late to harvest some seeds from my zinnias! They were so pretty this year and never thought about trying to save the seeds before. Thanks for sharing that bit of info with this photo, Kim!
Love the idea of this shot, the colours, and the textures. I also love zinnias, they have an old-fashioned feeling and they come in such gorgeous colours, and as you say, they are not demanding. Love this shot, fav for me!
