Xtreme Insect Is a Royals Fan

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In a bug’s world, everything is extreme. They are fascinating, bizarre, sometimes creepy and vitally important to our planet and our lives.

Xtreme BUGS are marching, flying, and crawling into Union Station in Kansas City. Over 100 larger-than-life insect models, and 23 of them powered by animatronics. You can see the details of their bodies; hear their buzzing, chirping, and hissing and watch them move.

Even though they’re small, bugs play a critical role in our environment, culture, scientific research, and the global economy.

Bugs Tell Us a Lot: As you explore the exhibit, you’ll find that each bug has a story to tell.
They’re Important to Our World:

- We can thank pollinating bugs for 1 of every 3 bites of food we take.
– Spider webs have inspired engineering designs for decades and spiders are among the best at pest control.
– Many medicines are the result of the study of insects and their curative and healing properties.

Their mind-boggling behaviors will inspire, surprise and educate guests of all ages.

Five educational themes: Superorganisms, Migration, Hibernation, Emergent Behavior and Solitary Predators.

Another photo from the field trip to Union Station. I love the insect's gold crown, which ties in with the local major league baseball team's "Take the Crown" theme in their quest for another World Series title. Looks like the Royals and Giants are going to game seven. Woo hoo!!
Very informative... Wonderful explanation. I am very pleased that the bugs are backing the Royals, who delivered a crushing performance against the Giants. I am even more pleased that they help us with our food supply - a much better result.

Really a great shot and I agree with what you say about them. They are important and GMO foods are wiping them out. And pesticides too. It is sad because we really do need bugs.
