Dragonflys are TOO FAST by gigiflower

Dragonflys are TOO FAST

If there was one "thing" I wanted to capture before this project finishes in 10 days time, it was a dragonfly. However as much as I chase them around the local lake I can never catch them! They are soooooo fast! Today we were out and about visiting a rural area of Victoria and there was "millions" of them around the large lake. I spent about 2 hours taking BILLIONS of photos of them - so many were blurred, or they were too hard to make out. This is one of my favourites - at least he is vaguely in some sort of focus and he has pretty colouring! Be kind to me, my 365 friends - this is the 1st time I have captured a dragonfly........and most likely the last!!!! How frustrating!
Great capture but I know what you mean I Just managed to capture some dragonfly shots back in August/sept...so it's still on the list to capture a decent shot ......

I am impressed Sam - I do not know how the people get those close ups I think they fake it - hahaha - in the last two days I have had a lovely red dragonfly tease me - the minute I get my camera he flits about at 100 miles an hour
December 21st, 2014
Nicely done !

@pinkpaintpot BIG SMILES Linda, thank YOU! I have been considering stopping but I just don't think I can bring myself to do that!!! HAHAH - so I think I will just change the way I manage my project, however I'm still not decided what I will actually do! I was thinking about taking January off as a bit of a break but my husband thinks I'm crazy to do that!!
December 21st, 2014
@leanne333 Oh Leanne, you make me SO HAPPY with your gorgeous comment and fav - THANK YOU :)
December 21st, 2014
@gigiflower You are so welcome, as I said Sam, this really is brilliant and in perfect focus, what a great achievement, it deserves to be on the Popular Page too :-)
December 21st, 2014
@leanne333 WOW, that is such a compliment coming from somebody as talented as you!!! I'm blushing (and running to tell my husband what you said!!)
December 21st, 2014
@gigiflower I think it maybe time to manage it differently for me too.
December 21st, 2014
@pinkpaintpot Do let me know of what you will change - I'm open to hearing all sorts of ideas :)
December 21st, 2014

December 21st, 2014
@ethelperry lol thanks Ethel, I can see I'm not the only one!
December 21st, 2014

December 21st, 2014
Jo
You have captured this dragonfly beautifully. We don't have many here in London but I always try to take a shot when I can and I know how difficult it is, so well done you.
December 21st, 2014
I think the blues are prettier - it seems around here I get red more often - but I can't seem to get a good pic
December 21st, 2014
@flyrobin You are SO NICE Robyn!!

@jo13 Many, many thanks Jo!

@annied I want to get any of them, even tho boring plain ones!
December 21st, 2014
Absolutely fantastic shot, definitely a fav. I hope you do stay on for another year. I am coming to the end of year 2 and I think I will stick around for another year. I don't post photos taken on the actual day any more. Just ones I want to post. Less pressure in year 2 and by the time next year comes around I will be so relaxed I think.
December 21st, 2014
Well done, Sam! Hope you're not disappearing from here in 10 days??
December 21st, 2014
Great capture!
December 21st, 2014
@onewing THANK YOU Babs!! You are such a kind soul - I love your efforts in commenting on my project! I will be continuing on, just need to manage my time a bit better :) I'm a bit like you - whilst I try to post a photo each day, I'm finding it easier if I don't panic so much if I don't have a photo from that day. I have lots of backups!!!

@_catherine_ noooooooo, I couldn't leave here! Just going to manage my time a bit better - even tho I don't really know what that means HAHAHAHA

@petk Many thanks Andrea!

I have tried following these things around the yard and failed to capture one in a photo. I'm pretty sure my neighbors thought I was nuts.
December 21st, 2014

December 21st, 2014
nice capture.... love your title!
December 21st, 2014
I've tried to capture them in flight, but can only get them when they alight on a twig. This is superb, Sam. Are you going to keep on posting after you finish your 365?
December 21st, 2014
Amazing shot, and inflight Sam...Fav
December 21st, 2014
Super capture, comp
December 21st, 2014
I think you have done a sterling job of capturing this dragonfly.
December 21st, 2014
I know the frustrations too Sam. I look at the shots some 365ers get and think, 'how the heck did they do that?' I tried and tried and posted some sad efforts. Still I had great fun trying. I love this and I think you did brilliantly. Just give me the secret!
December 21st, 2014

December 21st, 2014
Sam, this is such a great shot! :) Glad to see you're considering continuing once you've finished your year. Mine is over in mid-January. I'll likely continue but not sure what form it will take.
December 21st, 2014
Well done Sam, a big FAV and I appreciate your dedication to chasing dragonflies , so much easier to swat them and grab a pic as they lie there stunned ( I AM JOKING ) :)))
December 21st, 2014
Awesome capture! :)
December 21st, 2014
Amazing capture
December 21st, 2014
Did you know that dragonflies have the most amazing aerodynamic wings? It's the most amazing flight in nature on this Earth (according to Sir David Attenborough). They have two pairs of wings quite independent of each other. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-7k2HNJpXA
December 21st, 2014
Quite an impressive shot to get their wing movement
December 21st, 2014
Absolutely love the colours on this dragonfly! And well done for getting one in flight. Fav
December 22nd, 2014

Lee
You've underestimated this shot, its brilliant! Taking into account that the dragonfly is in flight its vey detailed and sharp. I think I may have been tempted to crop the image so as to really emphasise its detail and colour.
December 23rd, 2014
@gamelee You are so very kind Lee!!! I think I will give your suggestion a go and see what it looks like! Thank you so much for your very kind feedback :)
