Just had to ask if I could take his photo. He wore old clothes, old hat, colourful scarf, fingerless gloves, used a walking stick, talked slowly and wouldn't smile....all in a second hand book shop in Port Fairy! But he said yes to the photo :)
@julzmaioro Yes Julia, good choices :) @gigiflower The scarf was very bright. He wasn't scary - I wouldn't have asked him for the photo if he was - just very unusual :) @hermann very dour indeed :) @darthkitty He certainly was a character - no humour shown ,but discussed the history of the shop etc dating back to the 60's. He was on for a chat :) @dollycreek Yes he certainly took his shop keeping seriously - he could tell you where every book in the shop was :)
@lynnilou No I couldn't get a smile even when talking to him! The shop was full of books on both sides and sorted into groups (very narrow shop --only 6' 3' wide - one of the many facts he told me!)
But look at his scarf. Did he ask why you wanted the photo? And did you say you could make fun of him? Actually he looks a bit like me. Love second hand book stores. Nice shot BTW Denise.
What a great capture. The colourful scarf is such an interesting item as it doesn't seem to match his character. Great find and well done for being brave enough to ask for a shot.
@cejaanderson Thanks Jane :) @lindacarol Thanks Linda. There was never a smile to be seen :) @seattlite Thanks Gloria. He was very proud of his scarf as he unbuttoned his coat to show it all to us :) @junep Thanks June. He was a delightful character despite the no smiles :) @ladymagpie Thanks Heather, yes it was easy to read all the titles :) @pyrrhula Thanks, he was an unique and pleasant character :) @terryliv Thanks Terry. He was very proud of his scarf - he unbuttoned his coat to to show it to us. i told him why I wanted the photo= he didn't question it - and it wasn't to make fun of him - I admire his character! I forgot to mention the orange glasses - and he specially put them on for the photo! So now I know what you look like :) I will give him a copy of the photo next time I'm over there :) @macromover Thanks. The scar was amazing. I had to sum up the courage to ask him (ran it by my sister who was with me) but he just oozed such character! The 365 site develops your confidence in many ways I feel :) @tellefella Thanks John....I forgot the brooch! It was a silver tube with feathers of dried reed coming out of it :) @milaniet Thanks Milanie. he really did fit it well with all the books. No choice of where to stand him as the shop was so narrow and he just stood there :)
Great candid portrait!!! Love his eye glasses, his colorful scarf and hat!!! Really neat capture with all the shelves and shelves of books!!! He probably knows just where each and everyone of them are, too!!!
@leestevo@lealady@denisedaly@kevinkrueger@eyesmile@cailts@sansjuan@traveller@Weezilou Sorry I'm late with thanking you for your wonderful words of appreciation for this most interesting character. He really caught my attention, and despite his stern look he was a most interesting person. Will definitely call in and see him again. Thanks :)
Great shot, seems quite a character, probably very interesting to talk to. I like the way the books are arranged more easy to read the tittles than when standing up
