Went for a 2 hour drive today looking for this sight as it's very windy and much good for outdoor activities. A similar photo was in our local paper a while ago so decided to find it! This is Mt Elephant at Derrinallum but I had to drive around it to find where the canola was in relationship to capture it. I found it :)
Wow, my cousins used to live there, mad my grandparents used to own the supermarket/thrifty link hardware store. I have climbed to the top of that hill/Mountain, many years ago. I recognised it straight away.
Also a big fave for a trip down memory lane.
@karlow75 So pleased it brought back happy memories Kane! Have you any relatives there still? My work in kindergartens took me there and surruonding areas regularly. @thresheg@rustymonkey@gigiflower Thanks. The yellow of canola is stunning, so bright! I'm sure it will be harvested soon. Thanks for the favs too :)
@hermann@shepherdmanswife Thanks. yes the road trip was worth it, although for awhlie I wasn't going to find the right spot :) Thanks for favs too :) @leestevo@flyrobin Thanks for lovely comments. Always appreciated :)
@gilbertwood my relatives have moved on. My uncle, who was a teacher at the local school now lives in Ballarat. My grandparents retired and now live in Kielor. I do have some great memories there. Including skiing on (Not so) Deep Lake in summer.
@denisedaly@peterlgrave@darthkitty Thanks for encouraging words :) @tellefella The wind was horrible - that's why I thought I may as well sit in a car :) @plumpy@cejaanderson@mbemis@tjchapa Thanks for lovely comments. The canola is stunning at the moment - if you go for a drive inland to find it :) @lealady@pixiemac Sorry - didn't mean to trick you into looking for a real elephant :) @sheilag@kwind Thanks for kind comments. it is an amazing place :) @ladymagpie And a jumbo thanks from me for the kind words and fav :) @thistle@junep Thanks I knew I would have to find it somewhere. I approached the mount from the wrong angle first so kept driving around it :) @terryliv Yep! This 365 site has made us all mad for that "one particular shot"....but I'm loving being mad :) @pyrrhula Thanks. Guess you really don't have mountains and hills over there! I have been over there so briefly driving through your country and loved it though :) @janiskay@anazad511@radiogirl Thanks for all your wonderful comments. They certainly make me feel good, and that the trip was worth it! Thanks :)
Such a really nice composition - the shape of that hill/mountain most definitely resembles that elephant and what a fabulous field of yellow. Well worth the drive - thanks for sharing your day.
Sometimes it pays off not to give up and to drive around until you find what you're looking for. I'm sure you had a great day and thanks for sharing it with us. Your picture turned out super!
