Emergency, Emergency! by gilbertwood

Emergency, Emergency!

Don't panic! Training drill in action. Of course the sound of a helicopter hovering close brought everyone to the breakwater to see what was happening - including me! After it did several loops it was obviously a training session, although the little yacht deceived us at first. They dropped flares/dye into the water as well as the orange ring. Then they lowered a gaff hook (or that's what I'd call it) and retrieved the ring. This entertained a large crowd on the breakwater for at least half an hour :)
Great shots... he would of been giving the wind surfer a bit of a blow about...

That'd take some real skill to snag a ring out of choppy waters with a flying machine! You caught some great action shots of the event.

Fascinating to watch them practice. Wonder if the sail boat was surprised. We saw the navy practicing when we were hiking the cliffs in Cornwall. We were looking at them so much had to be careful we didn't have a misstep.
