Came across this pair of oystercatchers in Port Fairy the other day. They were enjoying the shells as much as I was :)

Very interesting that one of them is tagged. Are they endangered?

Beautiful - love the way they are walking into the shot

The Oyster catchers we get here in South Africa are totally black but also have the red legs and beaks. They are on the endangered list as so many of have been wiped out due to people driving on the beaches!

@pej @cejaanderson @rickster549 @888rachel Thanks for all the great comments. yes, the one on the left is heavily tagged and if you look closely the right one also has one tag! I don't think they are on the endangered list, but we don't have many here. This is only about the 4th pair I have found and they are only in pairs! I guess they are tagged for this very reason that they are not a common sight here :)
@salza Thanks sally. We do have the black oystercatchers here too, but they are very rare and I have only ever seen one pair! We call them Sooty Oystercatchers here :)
