Rubbish and nature in harmony!

Spotted this discarded drink bottle covered in these small shells washed up on the Port Fairy beach. They were "stuck" onto the bottle and each other - but I know nothing about these shells! Can anyone help?
Lovely lighting colour and clarity a great find Denise, they look like Buttercup Lucine or possible Sailors Ear clam shells to me Denise:)

I think you will find they are Goose Barnacle, Denise. There is a strange story about these. Before people knew about bird migration, they did not know where Barnacle Geese appeared from in the winter. They were never seen breeding as they nest to the far north. Some how the myth came about that Barnacle Geese emerged from underwater and that they lived in these before hand.

Ooops, Goose Barnacles.

Bloody plastics, I am watching Four Corners at the moment about the huge problems of plastics in our oceans :(

Why can't people take their plastic home with them and not dump it on the beach.
February 27th, 2017
You've captured an oxymoron
February 27th, 2017
Oh my goodness, even with them attached, the empty bottle floated and brought them ashore to perish. 😟

Bep
People never learn to take their plastic home...

Great shot of our humanity at it's worst!

Neat find and capture

An interesting find and capture

So sad. However, the bottle and shells could be recycled into a cool looking craft.
February 27th, 2017
wow, humanity has so much to answer for

So sad to see all the plastic that washes up along the shores. So much marine life dies due to it.

@pcoulson @markp Thanks for responding to my question Peter and Mark - I greatly appreciate it :)
@hermann Yes i saw some of that show until I was interrupted - not good!
@louannwarren The tide was out so hopefully it was washed back out to sea when the tide came back in - for the shells sake :) @cjphoto You do have a great creative mind Chris :)

@hermann Watched it last night too Sally. Bloody terrible the mess humans are making of this planet. And it was preceded by Australian Story and the bleaching of the coral on the Great Barrier Reef brought about by rising sea temperatures. But there isn't a problem. Just ask Pauline Hanson.

Really close-up evidence of the problems man is creating by his laziness and unconcern. Worrisome - but a super shot.

A pity people can't pick up their rubbish. We're not leaving our planet in a very fit state for the next generation.
February 28th, 2017
A very interesting find and capture, although yes, quite sad.
February 28th, 2017
Cool capture.
February 28th, 2017
Great capture.

Maybe you've discovered a use for plastic bottles. Without them what would goose barnacles do?
February 28th, 2017
I see so much rubbish on beaches and camp sites during my travels.

Sam
Wow this is weird!!!
February 28th, 2017
@stray_shooter Fly south for the winter?
February 28th, 2017
@terryliv @stray_shooter Don't think goose barnacles can fly! But maybe they could use the bottle as a boat :)
February 28th, 2017
Well spotted!
