On day 1 we left Warrnambool (Vic) to drive to Gawler (above Adelaide in SA) to met up with the others in our adventurous group. We passed through Coonalpyn (SA) where the 30 metre silos have just been painted this year. Guido Van Helten painted 5 children to focus on the future of the 300 population town. It has already been a success in revitalising the town with over 40 cars stopping every hour! 650 kms today.
Guido Van Helten did a fabulous piece of art in Newcastle for the Hit the Bricks exhibition a few years ago and the owner of the building painted over it last year. can you believe that. What a moron he was.
@onewing Definitely an idiot!! Guido has done a few down this way. @lynnz Yes I have heard that is starting to happen in the USA - it's a great idea :) @judithdeacon Make sure when you get to Victoria that you go to the Mallee area where there is now a trail to follow and there are 6-7 silos in different towns! It's on my hit list to go for a drive, but each time we plan it something happens and we don't get there! Hopefully before the end of the year! So are you coming to the Great Ocean Road - would love to meet you :)
I'm glad you got to see them Denise. They're so beautifully done. I was surprised by the number of cars that had pulled over when we were there. The bakery was doing a roaring trade :)
