How do you capture wind?

With near gale force winds today, I headed to the beach trying to capture it. I then spotted these terns all facing the wind and decided it was appropriate!
OK...I now have the song, "Turn Turn Turn" running through my head! You could also title this "Shunned" or Tern Butts"! (Do you think it's time for me to call it a night and get some sleep?!) VERY cool photo, Denise...I've never seen so many birds that weren't sea gulls on one spot!

I never noticed this phenomena among birds. I guess they act like airplanes when on take-off. Beautiful scene and capture.

Interesting question Denise birds don't have to land into wind like aircraft but do tend to takeoff into wind but not always, suspect a brolly flying down the beach would help, lol:)

Many terns waiting their turn to takeoff :)

They literally “have to stand their ground” against those winds. Wonderful capture!

they do look hunkered down, they're a photogenic bird! lovely shot.

So interesting, and I hope they're not as miserable as I would be!

@pcoulson Some were attempting to fly off but literally went backwards!! Would have been interesting to video them :) Lucky no brolly girls were there or they would have flown off into the never-never!!

February 15th, 2018
Wow ...That's a lot of birds, and those waves are beautiful!
February 15th, 2018
Amazing shot! And now I have seen some real terns. In my sailing days one of the popular boats was called the flying tern, and I never knew what that was. Thanks for answering that long unanswered question!
February 15th, 2018
so many terns ... love the waves
February 15th, 2018
What a great shot Denise. And I love that you've caught one bird in the air.
February 15th, 2018
A great idea to catch the wind.

@stray_shooter My pleasure to be able to help you Ron :) I'll have to get a nice close up for you too - on a calm day!!

Capturing the wind is tricky for sure. I see it in the crashing waves though and these fellows certainly look like they're cold. Good shot!
February 15th, 2018
Looks like one is still trying to brave wind! Great shot of them all!
