When I moved into this house nearly 2 years ago, I said to my daughter "all I need now is to see a koala in this gum tree outside my kitchen window." She laughed at me and said, "you're not on the farm anymore!" I live right in the town and have only one gum tree and 2 other large trees. Well you can imagine my surprise Saturday evening when I saw a koala climb up the tree - my daughter didn't believe me!! The next morning he had gone - but then I saw him run across the lawn and up into the willow tree - and there he stayed for several hours :) He later quietly disappeared without me seeing - but I was very happy :)
@koalagardens Yes - I called our animal rescue team when I noticed it had some rusty stains on it's bottom - fearing chlamydial cystitis. They came and looked at him and said it was a male possibly just marking it;s territory.
@jgpittenger@louannwarren Thanks for your concern but there are no fears of fires down here! I live on the southern coast of Victoria Aust and the fires are up in NSW & Queensland - 1000's of miles away! In fact we are freezing down here with cold front after cold front passing over us - just wish I could send this wet weather up there :)
I think there is a "tale" that if you find a ladybug in your house it will bring you good fortune (no endorsement of that from me!) BUT I would say finding a koala in your tree is even better than that! Great shot.
Wonderful surprise, Denise, but it just proves, provide the right food, shelter and cover and you never know what you might find.
This reminds me of the old adage.....
A Koala in a tree, is worth more than two birds in a bush.
