Octopus tree

This dwarf umbrella tree (Schefflera arboricola) is native to Taiwan and is commonly called the Octopus Tree, for whatever reason. The berries are a startlingly bright orange colour and gradually turn purple as they ripen. This tree caught my eye today as I drove past; it was absolutely covered in these huge bunches of berries and they looked wonderful against the blue summer sky. No rain again today; yippee!
Beautiful. I have a dwarf schefflera, but no berries. Your plants are just very prolific as compared to ours. The berry color is so pretty.

Looks fantastic. We're also enjoying blue skies :)

Very good. Those colours against the sky are so complimentary, and so often there are Rainbow Lorikeets doing their best to make sure that the berries never reach maturity.

Great close-up. The blue sky is so wonderful against the brilliant orange. Wondering if you have birds that eat these. Also, from the photo it appears there are eight clusters of berries. Is that the pattern on the tree?
