Rough seas at Booti Booti by girlie

Rough seas at Booti Booti

It was the fifth day of a heatwave when we set up camp at Booti Booti and the first thing we all wanted to do was dive into the surf. We had to make do with paddling in the shallows. The sign on the left puts it mildly. My friend, in the second photo, is standing in water as deep as we were game to go in, and we still got knocked over a number of times. The rip was strong and the waves seemed to come from every direction. It's possible the huge cyclone up north had some effect even this far south. We contented ourselves with lying around in the shallows.
Looks a bit heavy. It dies take many days for the effects of a storm to play themselves out on the high seas.

I miss the beach so much Robin. When we were home in Lismore at Christmas, it was too wet and windy to get there for the day.
Definitely wise to only go in to knee-deep. Still looks gorgeous.

@ellida Thanks Graham. Even though the weather gurus reckon we're too far south to suffer rough seas from the cyclone, I must say our seas have been unusually rough ever since. @tashachawner Thanks Tasha. Yes, I lived for 25 years in Armidale and missed the beach dreadfully. Whenever we got to the coast the weather was invariably against swimming. Know exactly what you mean.

As much as the sea looks rough there it looks great too. I love choppy seas. How long did you go in for before you got fed up falling over? lol

@kirsty1975 Thanks Kirsty. Yes, it looked great but was very dangerous. We lasted about 20 minutes at a time and came out with quite a few bruises!

Wow, that looks like a wild sea! It's like a battle to swim in it, I like that! The collage explains everything, very brave of you to go for a swim with a sign like this...

Looks very rough Robin, hard not to want to dive right in with that heat. hope you had a lovely trip :)
February 7th, 2011
I imagine the sound of it was wonderful.

What a stunning surf! But, it does look wild and you were smart to play it safe. I'm not the daredevil I used to be. :)

Yet another fantastic spot on the NSW coastline :-)

Glad you played it safe. The sea looks incredible.

Choppy it may be but still looks like a great place for a dip!

look like a great way to cool off....

Water is scary! It is so powerful. This image really shows the turmoil just beyond..
February 7th, 2011
It looks dangerous and with all those warning signs I think I would just sit and read a book!
February 7th, 2011
Looks mighty treacherous to me! Love the composition with the warning sign in the front!

The sea is a beautiful color in this shot, probably because it has so much air in it from the roughness of the seas. Too bad you couldn't go out deeper, it looks beautiful.
February 7th, 2011
Very wise ! That sea commands respect :-)
February 7th, 2011
Wow that sea looks turbulent! Great shot.

@geertje @kirsty @gill Thanks Geertje, Kirsty and Gill. @barbsmith Thanks Barb. Yes, the best thing was the sound of the surf at night pounding the beach. @peggysirk Thanks Peggy. Yes, my daredevil days are pretty much over, too. @queenbe @roejan @cleaty @pankaj @brillomick @maggie2 @robinwarner @ldpaul @barbara @shantwin @glyn @hinhoutbay Thanks very much, everybody, for your great comments.

@miranda Very funny, Miranda, but we seemed to survive nevertheless! Thanks for your comment.

.It looks rough. Looks like the sea here. Hope it did not influenced your mood.
February 7th, 2011

February 7th, 2011
This looks crazy scary!!!
February 8th, 2011
at least you got to cool off. I've only seen beaches around here posted for contamination from runoff. I guess we're suppose to know..... nice pic!

Gorgeous beach and lovely shot but it definitely looks a bit rough and kinda scary....do you have to worry about sharks too?
February 9th, 2011
Wow! How wonderful. This is a great photo....the sign with the ocean in the background is perfect.
February 9th, 2011
Even the shallows are beautiful. The waters look huge and overwhelming. I think I would stay put on the safe part of the beach. :)
