Kentia Palm against the sky by girlie

Kentia Palm against the sky

I liked the look of the clouds above my house the other day, with the silhouette of the Kentia Palm (Howea forsteriana). This palm is endemic to Lord Howe Island and is considered vulnerable by the World Conservation Society. It can be grown indoors because it tolerates low light but outside will only grow in warm climates. Its seed is propagated and sold worldwide but this small island off the New South Wales coast is its native habitat. It is sometimes called Thatch Palm.
I love palms. I can probably not shoot enough palms and sunsets, though others may tire of them. :)

Love this picture - perfect silhouette and beautiful sky - it makes me feel all chilled out and wanting a cold glass of wine in my hand, sitting on a patio.

I've yet to learn the palm trees. Here in California we have lot's of them. But there presence makes me believe we're trying to be "tropical" & we really aren't. We have other things to offer. Beautiful sky, love the tree against the sky. Nice pic!

@molizard I agree with you that planting palms in places where they don't occur naturally looks out of place. Here many of them grow in the wild and are native to the area, so look quite natural.
