Protea promise by girlie

Protea promise

This beautiful pincushion Protea, a South African native, is the first one to show signs of Spring blooming in my garden. Every day I go out to check its progress. It's a slow process but very beautiful even while it's unfurling like this. When it's fully out I'll post a picture of this lovely flower. The Proteas are related to our own native Grevilleas and Waratahs, and you'll see some similarities to both when it's fully in bloom.
and then again, Hibiscus bloom and wither in one day. So odd. This photo is very striking......not only is the flower cook, but so is the contrast/shadows and backgound!

There are a lot of Protea in Hawaii--the thing I remember most about them is that the blossoms last a long time. They are so stunning and remind me of something you would see at the bottom of the ocean. Lovely shot Robin!
