I haven't finished with my Sydney shots yet, but a few of you have asked for 'more kangaroos', so here is another I took of the joey in its mother's pouch the other day at Little Bay. Its attention was taken by two kangaroos having a brief fight nearby. I was so intent on capturing this one that I missed the fight!
I do love joeys at this stage of life. I watch them from my verandah. They are so funny scaring themselves by hopping further and further away from Mum, going faster and faster, tumbling over in their exuberance and diving head first back into the safety of the pouch when they give themselves a fright. I often see Mothers give them a cuff around the ear when they've been too silly and they settle down for a little while just like children then when Mum's distracted they are off again.
@ubobohobo Agree with you, Margaret, they're such fun. Watching the dynamics between mother and joey is real entertainment. I love the way, when the mothers take off for a hop, they pat the joey on the head to get it down into the pouch safely.
Well this is a fav for me. Not something I get to see at our Cincinnati Zoo. I have always loved Roo from reading Pooh to the kids so many years ago - a tradition that carries on with the same book. I love it and you have captured this mom and babe so very well!!
