'Where's the food!?'

That's what my friend asked the waiter when he served up her meal. We were having lunch with a 365 friend (@shirleytemple) in Brisbane. Shirley and I had pretty decent helpings of our respective meals. My friend had ordered something called Smoked Salmon with Seaweed Pearls and this was the result. It took her about 3 seconds to demolish the lot! The waiter was a little affronted at her question. The 'seaweed pearls' are those things that look like caterpillars on the little pieces of smoked salmon. We never did figure out what the stick was.

lol I recently started to follow Shirley!! Small world, Robin! Sounds like a bit of an upmarket place you lunched at!

I hope they were'nt charge for that

wouldn't survive in this town.

It looks very nicely presented...think I'd be asking the same question though!!

Oh my....very fancy looking food but not much of a serving.

@bobfoto Haha, nor the one we live in!

@triciaodonnell Only an arm and a leg!

Pretty but impractical, not sure that would even fill my kitten!

Great story

Cool shot too

Thanks for the laugh - I remember it well. Kris was so shocked when the plate was put in front of her. It's a good shot Robin

@ozziehoffy It was the ABC Cafe at Southbank
posted January 18th, 2013
Not very filling, Robin. I would have done like David Copperfield - asked for more.
posted January 18th, 2013
At least you got a photo out of it. It does look good.
posted January 18th, 2013
@shirleytemple Ahhh Southbank, I guess we need say no more lol. I was just there last weekend though... mmmmm Max Brenners!
posted January 18th, 2013
LOL...I thought they looked like caterpillars also. This happened to me and my hubby once. We still laugh about it.
posted January 18th, 2013
Perhaps they appreciated more beauty than energy of food. It has taken time to put those pieces so nicely on the plate :)
Good weekend to you !

I think I would have asked the exact same question. Hope they served some bread so she had SOMETHING to eat. Lovely shot, btw.
posted January 18th, 2013
I'd have asked the same thing! At least, it left her room for dessert!
posted January 18th, 2013
Beautiful arranged but I don't think that will do for the rest of the afternoon...straight to the Mac...lol
posted January 18th, 2013
It's the thought of how much handling it needed to arrange it that would put me off eating it!
Nice shot of it, though.
posted January 18th, 2013
You are joking; is this a meal?
posted January 18th, 2013
@anoeska I am not joking; that's what was put on the table!
posted January 18th, 2013
I hope her desert was better! The meal is beautifully presented and I hope it was delicious.
posted January 18th, 2013
All that fancy nouvelle cuisine..... It's got a lot to answer for! This would be nice for a starter! Nicely photographed Robin!
posted January 18th, 2013
looks very pretty, although not filling, hope she didn't go hungry.
posted January 18th, 2013
@gennywren Nothing to write home about, I'm afraid, Genny. And no dessert after the price of the main!!
@ness50 We had to give her bits from our plates so she wouldn't go hungry! @timandelke It might have left her room for dessert but the price of it left no money to pay for it!
@yonnie She had to ask for bread; at least that filled her up a bit.

In cheaper restorans man can more eat...

@vesna0210 That's very true, Vesna and a good reminder.
posted January 18th, 2013
Funny how great food comes in such small portions ! it looks great though and very well captured!!
posted January 18th, 2013
LOL, tell him the tip will reflect the meal
posted January 19th, 2013
@sarasdadandmom Haha, great suggestion, Terry, except that we don't tip in Australia, as a rule.
posted January 19th, 2013
It's a nice meal presentation, but I hope you didn't pay too much for that. That looks more like an appetizer than a main meal.
posted January 19th, 2013
That really is pitiful! I think they are trying to serve art rather than food. Was this in the city? I need to steer clear of this place!
posted January 19th, 2013
@bella_ss Yes, see @shirleytemple Shirley's answer to Cass above.
posted January 19th, 2013
Oh......!!! That does look pretty skimpy for a main....and what exactly are those caterpillar thingies???
posted January 19th, 2013
@ruthmouch They're supposed to be something called 'seaweed pearls'. I don't think they tasted of anything much.
posted January 19th, 2013
@shirleytemple @girlie I will remember not to eat there, or at least not to order the salmon :)
posted January 19th, 2013
@bella_ss The meals that Shirley and I had were perfectly fine and very tasty. It was only this one that was served in this fashion so, yes, be careful what you order!
posted January 19th, 2013
It looks very pretty though.
I don't like smoked salmon so I'd not have to worry about the pitiful serving size
posted January 19th, 2013
It’s beautifully presented, but I would have been disappointed at the portion size, too. I’m a girl that loves to eat!
posted January 19th, 2013
Brilliant!!!! Made me laugh out loud :-)
posted January 19th, 2013
eheh Looks yummy, well maybe with the exception of the "caterpillars"
posted January 21st, 2013
Nouveau cuisine to be sure. I need to be on that diet. :)
posted January 21st, 2013
It looks pretty, but I would have ask the same question! :0)
posted January 22nd, 2013
Ha! That's not a meal, that's an appetizer. LOL
What a shock it must have been when the waiter delivered that. It is very pretty though. :-)
posted January 28th, 2013
I love the story! It looks adorable but I would need about 3 of these plates at least to call it an appetizer ! I love how colorful it looks!
posted February 6th, 2013
I would have same thing, looks pretty though.
