Photo taken from the top of Paulina Peak - the tallest part of the Newberry Caldera rim. With an altitude of almost 8,000 feet it normally gives one an impressive view of the Cascade Mountains from Shasta in northern California all the way to Mount Adams in Washington State. But not today. A massive forest fire to the north and west of the Sisters volcano complex really messed with the view. Here you can barely make out from the left - Mount Bachelor, South Sister, Middle and North Sister and the horrific smoke cloud to the right. Air quality because of the smoke blowing east is very bad in Bend, Redmond and Madras, Oregon. We're going south to Crater Lake and taking the I-5 slog home!
