Clarke Quay, Singapore by golftragic

Clarke Quay, Singapore

Taken last time we were in Singapore. We'll be back there for Christmas 2017!! Clarke Quay is a bustling happy place and our hotel is right there (again). Yayy! Love Singapore.
Great capture. I love Singapore too.

Excellent. Brings back memories.

@veengupta Thanks Veena, it's so clean and so safe, far safer at night than a lot of places here.

@dide Thanks Dianne, it's a great place. Sometimes called Asia-Lite, ie Asia with the mod cons of home. Pretty true too. Super-clean and very safe, I wouldn't hesitate to catch a train at night there, would be very wary here on Melbourne trains, regional trains pretty good though.

@pamknowler Thanks Pam, this will be my third visit there and still enjoying Singapore. We have to fly to Burma/Myanmar via Singapore (only 8hrs Melbourne-Singapore) on our December Big Trip so decided a few days there would be fun. Then we realised our first proposed timing would see us flying home on Christmas Day. That didn't appeal to us, so we extended our 'few' days to nigh on a week. Singapore is now quite expensive and very much so over Christmas so the piggy bank lost a lot of weight, but heck, there aren't any pockets in shrouds. Hoping to find somewhere that does a good Chinese meal for Christmas Dinner, fingers crossed.

@graemestevens Bet they're good ones. The Tiger's pretty darned good in that climate.

@golftragic it sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned Marnie! I like the sound of Singapore from what you have said in your comments. Maybe a stopover there on my way to Australia? Now that would be an interesting trip!

@pamknowler Assuming you didn't take one of those new non-stop flights the choices are one of the UAE or Singapore, I'd recommend the latter. We spent a week in Dubai coming home from Europe. Dubai itself is interesting albeit wiltingly hot and humid but the treatment at the airport leaves a lot to be desired. Because of my metal prosthetics I was pulled aside coming in and going out both to and from Europe. Being female one is taken into a little room by a scowling woman in a black tent and rather than being patted down I was thoroughly felt up (and down). Needless to say I was far from amused by this treatment. Our travel agent also got the same treatment on another trip and was equally displeased. No probs in Oz (just use full-body scanners) or Europe (didn't bother us). Singapore tight on security but civilised. Are you planning a trip to Oz?
June 5th, 2017
@golftragic ooh don't like the sound of that frisk down! Thinking about Oz - who knows? Just a bit of a wuss when I think of the spiders and snakes! Lol!

@pamknowler It was most unpleasant, never had that sort of treatment anywhere else. I'd have made very strong official complaints if that had happened here. Kept my mouth shut there, different system altogether, and not in favour of females. You shouldn't worry too much about our wildlife, where you'd probably be going you'd have no trouble at all. In my 75 years I've maybe had 3 or 4 spider bites and they were just nuisance value. Snakes won't attack unless you annoy them, just need to look where you're putting your feet on bush walks. There's over 1000 members at our golf club, I've been a member there for over 10 years, lots of snakes lurking in the summer, no-one's been bitten in my time there. Just like crossing a road, ya gotta look.

Singapore is so much fun! I have been there over the past 5 years about a dozen times (work and play). Check out a couple of my photos: https://365project.org/gigiflower/365/2014-09-20 and https://365project.org/gigiflower/365/2014-09-26

And I agree with you about Dubai........that airport can be quite scary!

Great shot. I bet you can't wait to go back there again. So many things to explore.

Beautiful shot

This looks like a great place to be for Christmas. Lots of life and lights. And good food - we can't forget the food.
June 6th, 2017
@onewing Thanks Babs, really looking forward to our stay there.
June 6th, 2017
@888rachel Definitely can't forget the food!!!!! Only problem is to 'discover' a decent Chinese restaurant that does Christmas dinner, and then to get a booking there.

@gigiflower Thanks Sam, will check out your photos with great interest. As for Dubai airport, definitely 'not happy, Jan'. Quite unacceptable tactile invasion of privacy, major hangups about gender, and we couldn't find a coffee shop in the part of the airport we were stuck in. Added to which we had to go through two separate (men one way, women the other) inspections where we had to get rid of any bottles of water (or anything else) we'd bought after the first checkpoint. Tullamarine's a PITA, but at least you know what's going one and the staff are reasonably courteous (most of the time).

@gigiflower Had a look at your Singapore shots and love 'em. Especially love the indoor shot, that whole area was just being built when we were last there. Thx too for the info re tripods, I'll probably only have a Gorilla Pod with me, if that. Want to travel as light as poss.
