Snapping away

Been in Melbourne all day, 31 degrees C and a trifle warm after all our cold weather. Spotted this lot in Fitzroy Gardens all taking photos of Captain Cook's cottage (a replica). For non-Aussies, Captain Cook was an English sailor who is credited with the first non-indigenous 'discovery' of Australia. However, as other various information and evidence has come to light it now seems highly likely the Dutch beat him to it by over 100 year. Bad luck for them they landed on a desolate stretch of what is now Western Australia and decided the place wasn't worth having.
An interesting image with all those photographers.

@fbailey Yes, there are several claims extant. Apart from anything else what are now Indonesians were fishing in Australian waters in the early 1700s if not before. If you're interested see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Australia
