@robz On this trip we did stay at the resort. No idea of cost cos it was all in the package deal. The accommodation is OK, no frills, but perfectly adequate. Food at the restaurant is ditto, wine and beer are good. Last time we went to Wilpena Pound we spent a week at Rawnsley Park (not sure if it's 'resort' or not). It's outside the Pound, but not far away (10-15 min drive?). We stayed in a self-catering more-than-adequate cabin with everything we wanted. There's also a caravan park and, at the other end of the scale, eco-cabins. All this info is from a couple of years ago, you'd need to check it out. As I recall the situation, it was a helluva lot cheaper than the WP resort. There's a shop at the caravan park which we found had anything we hadn't brought with us. Depends on what you folks want/like. If we ever get back up there I'd prefer RP. I love this kind of country, it's unforgiving but has its own appeal. https://www.rawnsleypark.com.au/
@olivetreeann I guess countries that cover large land areas, think USA, Canada, Russia, Australia etc do have huge variations in countryside. Good fun isn't it? So much to see in your own country!
Thanks for all of your info Marnie - I'll check out Rawnsley Park. We much prefer self catering accommodation - it's so much better to be able to cook your own food (GF is tricky otherwise too) 10-15 mins drive is fine too. We're looking forward to seeing Wilpena Pound again - it's been about 25 years since our last visit. Thanks again Cheers Rob
@robz Do let me know how things go for you on the trip Rob. BTW, there's a reasonable small supermarket in Hawker too. So far as I know you'll be passing through there to get to WP.
