Signs of our times: 9

Local wholefoods shop today. The physical shop is closed to customers, but there's a good system for us to order by phone/text/email, they let you know when your order's complete. Up the street you go, wait outside well socially distanced, out comes someone to serve next in line, back out with order in a clean box and portable eftpos and bingo, everyone's happy.
Some ot our shops are offering pre-order and pick up, some offering delivery. I can get fresh organic veggies and eggs from two different people in the valley (delivered). Earlier this week I had some free-range lamb delivered. Definitely going to change how we view shopping in the future.

Good to see. Our local IGA also has a system where you can order on line and pick up out the back. Haven't tried it though but will probably need to next week.

Where there’s a will there’s a way. A valuable social comment here.

Yes, life has changed. I picked up a prescription from the chemist the other day and the queue was way out across the car park.

How adaptable :)

Good to hear they are still trading. We are all learning how to be more creative these days. I queued outside the supermarket yesterday as they were limiting the number of people in at any one time. Luckily i didn't have to wait too long. I bet the queue would have been much longer today

Many of our larger supermarkets have installed barriers to limit the number of people entering. Our local Woolies is pretty quiet so it hasn't been an issue (yet).

Sign of the time, indeed.

Makes me wonder if this will be the new normal for longer than we think ...

We are doing pick up at local Fred Meyers...they deliver directly to the back of the car...then we go home and alcohol wipe all the food!

@ludwigsdiana Bob Dylan was a wise man.

@jeneurell Much the same here with Coles and Woollies, but we've been managing OK without needing to do that yet. So many people need the service more than we do.

An excellent system that hopefully keeps people supplied but safe/healthy.

Great idea. We have a limited number of people who can be in the store. The rest are queuing in front of the store. And near the policeman with a megaphone asks you to stay at home.

That's so well organised!

@taffy Very definitely Taffy, safe, healthy and good healthy food too.

@haskar We have much the same at the supermarkets Haskar, not police but do have security men (always men) making sure everyone behaves.

@robz I was rapt to see they'd worked out a way for we loyal customers could get our wholefood fix and to save the biz from going under too!
April 11th, 2020
@robz We do live in a predominantly polite part of town, thank goodness.
